THE
LONG ISLAND ROAD RUNNERS CLUB
Members!
Now
is a great time to join or renew your membership in LIRRC for 2017! The 2017 Application
is available on this web site, and our fees (always the most
reasonable on Long Island) will stay the same. Please remember......you must
be a current member to enjoy the discounted race fees on Wednesday Night and
to participate in club events! Your ongoing support has allowed us
to plan a great 2017 Schedule, so take a moment to renew now! We also ask
that if you have family members or friends who could benefit from starting a
running program, please let them know about us! This year, each race in the
Wednesday Night Series has a theme attached, starting with the
Opening Night
of the Wednesday Night Series on June 14th - Flag Day! Before and after our Wednesday Night races,
starting on April 26th, our
Ribbon Runs
will be held in Eisenhower Park on the Golf Course side of the Park. Start
time is 5:30, but you can catch up with the group if you are late! A club
trip is being planned, and our 2nd Annual Picnic will be held in September! Continue to check
the web site for updates on events, and check your e-mails. If you are not getting
updates and newsletters, it is possible that we do not have your correct
e-mail address. Drop us a line using the "Contact Us" link on the web site.......... We are always looking for
volunteers for our races, and a volunteer committee will be contacting those
who expressed an interest on their applications - but in the meantime, you can meet us at
the race shed up to 90 minutes before any race if you want to help. We thank you
in advance for your support of the Long Island Road Runners! THOSE WHO
PRE-REGISTER FOR OPENING NIGHT WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO WIN A $50 GIFT CARD AT
THE RAFFLE AFTER THE RACE! APPLICATIONS ARE AVAILABLE ON OUR WEBSITE AT
WWW.LIRRC.ORG AND MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE
CLOSE OF BUSINESS ON JUNE 10TH!

Cell Phones For Soldiers
Throughout our country's
history, there have been selfless people who have stepped up to
answer America's call. Let us not forget our men and women in
uniform, and let us always let them know they are appreciated
for the sacrifices they and their families make for us. What can
we do to show our support of our men and women in uniform? There
are many ways, and the Long Island Road Runners Club has decided
to partner with the "Cell Phones for Soldiers"
program. Each week at our races, a collection box will be
available to collect old cell phones. This is a close-to-home
cause, as former LIRRC President Fred Haslett's son, Sgt. 1st Class Fred
"Rick" Haslett of the NC Army National Guard, was
stationed in southern Baghdad, on his second deployment in support of
Operation Iraqi Freedom. Since his company's Internet
connection was not free, Cell Phones For Soldiers kept SFC.
Haslett and his fellow soldiers supplied with calling cards so
calls home to loved ones were free.
Soldiers can pay as much as $5 per minute to
call loved ones. Our collection helps them stay in touch
with loved ones. Let's do our part.
God Bless our
troops!

for Soldiers website at:

The story of these two youths who started this
program is inspiring.
